Dear Patient,
Here are some useful information to follow in pre and post surgery. These precautions are essential to ensure the success of the intervention.
Before surgery
- One day before the procedure, brush your teeth with your usual toothpaste, then make a PERIO-AID mouthwash after each meal.
- On the day of the procedure proceed in the same way.
- Make sure you are not fasting before the procedure.
Upon arrival, our team will be at your disposal for any additional questions.
After surgery
- Apply ice to the operated area and maintain between 10 and 20 minutes.
- Repeat the application of cold as often as possible during the first 2 days.
- Avoid eating and drinking too hot for 1 or 2 days and have an easy diet to chew.
- For 48 hours, avoid exposing yourself to sources of heat (heating, sun, …)
- Disinfect the wound with PERIO-AID SPRAY 2x per day, starting the day after the procedure and for 1 week.
- 24 hours after surgery, resume dental brushing. The operated area will be cleaned with a soft toothbrush for 1 week.
What follows the surgery
In this case, place a sterile wet pad at the site of the procedure and hold it in place for 15-20 minutes.
Bleeding for a few hours (4 to 5 hours), which can sometimes last for 48 hours.
An edema / hematoma (swelling-blue) which reaches its maximum 48h after the intervention.
Pain that can be severe within hours after surgery and should gradually decrease (this pain is well controlled by analgesics).

A difficulty to open your mouth for 1 week.
Drying of the lips.
A slight increase in temperature during 48 hours (fever).
Pains at a distance (ear, throat, antagonistic teeth, …).
Other recommendations
Food
During the first 24 hours, alcoholic beverages are discouraged.
It is recommended to reduce as much as possible, or better, to stop the consumption of cigarettes for 5 days, in order not to delay the healing.
Physical activity
During the first week, avoid sports (risk of traction on the sutures and bleeding).
During the first two nights, remember to have a slightly elevated head to reduce edema.
